Ensembles
Brahms Girls
Brahms Girls
is Seattle’s newest women’s a
cappella ensemble, making its debut this season on Gallery Concerts.
Directed by Nancy Zylstra, this vocal
quartet performs the transcendent repertoire of Renaissance works,
German folksongs, and original compositions that Johannes Brahms
prepared for his women’s choir in Hamburg in the late 1850s.
The Chickering Quartet
The Chickering Quartet
takes its name from the magnificent 1867 Chickering concert grand piano
that they use in performing the piano quartet literature of the 19th
century. The quartet
explores works by Brahms, Dvorak, and others, revealing the rich, warm
ensemble created by gut-strung string instruments and the
straight-strung Chickering piano.
The Classical Consort
The Classical Consort
came into being in 1988, the first year of Gallery Concerts, as a mixed
ensemble of voice, clarinet, violin, cello, and fortepiano.
Since then it has performed a wide range of
works by Scarlatti, C. P. E. Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and
Schubert, appearing in the Northwest on Gallery Concerts, the Mostly
Nordic and Governor’s Chamber Music series, and Belle Arte Concerts.
Ensemble Electra
The
Seattle-based Ensemble Electra,
founded in 2007, performs with energy and passion the dazzling and
expressive 17th- and 18th-century repertoire for recorder, violin, and
harpsichord. Their many years of experience and acclaimed musical
reputations, both as individual soloists and chamber musicians, have
given them the perspective and authority to experiment with unique
programming, resulting in highly innovative and dynamic performances.
Their energetic and spontaneous style creates playful and engaging
concerts that appeal to audiences of all ages.
